A huge, structured wine, the 2006 Barolo Rocche dei Brovia is deep, powerful and structured. This is a decidedly brooding, tannic Barolo that is many years away from peaking. Intense fruit and equally imposing tannins meld together in a powerful, structured Barolo that is going to need time. Interestingly, Alex Sanchez adds that the 2006 was very light in body and color for the first year of its life. You’d never guess that today. 95+/100 (01.2015)
Usually rather open and expressive, in 2006 the Barolo Rocche has the makings of a long-distance runner. From time to time its perfumed red fruit makes an appearance yet this remains a powerful, inward Rocche in need of significant cellaring. There is plenty of muscle in the glass, in fact the wine continues to gain weight with air. Sweet roses and tar have the last word on the magnificent, perfumed finish. The Rocche has become marvelously expressive since I tasted it last year. 96/100 (12.2010)
