The 2019 Terra do Zambujeiro is a blend of 38% Aragonez, 27% Alicante Bouschet, 11% Touriga Nacional, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon and some Syrah and Petit Verdot for the rest, aged for 24 months in 30% new French oak. It comes in at 15.2% alcohol. This is big everywhere—ripe fruit, depth and power. It's not for the shy. The good news is that the balance seems very good. The structure complements the fruit and supports it, so this never seems like a fruit bomb, even though it has bold and ripe fruit. Conversely, the deep mid-palate soaks up the tannins and prevents this from being too astringent. It opened seeming a bit too harsh and clumsy, but an hour or so in the glass helped that a lot. This is going to need a couple of years in the cellar to prove what it has, but right now this looks like one of the best Terras. The key question is how good it will be when it hits peak. Will it hold its balance perfectly; will it evolve? Those are good questions for this to answer in the cellar. It will be approachable sooner, but I'd come back around 2025–2027 for a better look. It should age well thereafter. If you open it now, some decanting would be mandatory. 94/100 (05.2022)
