From 10- to 25-year-old vines on permeable soils of clay, silt, sand and Bündner schist and aged in barriques for 10 months, the 2021 Malanser Chardonnay opens with a deep, clear, refined and elegant bouquet of refreshing fruits, crushed stones and floral aromas. Round, refined and fresh on the palate, this is a full-bodied, pure and refreshing Chardonnay from Malans. The finish is the most exciting here because it is pure, saline, fresh, tensioned, intense and long, with persistent flavors of ripe apples, pears and melons. There are delicate yeasty notes on the otherwise cleansing and stimulating, refreshing and crystalline aftertaste. I wonder why I didn't have this Chardonnay in previous years. It's an excellent discovery (at least for me). It comes from a vineyard that was still in organic conversion in 2021 but has been certified organic since last year. 13.5% stated alcohol. 93/100 (02.2023) - Wine Advocate
