The Emidio Pepe Montepulciano 2010 shows outstanding potential, and it is easy to see why both Emidio and his daughter Sofia are so enthusiastic about this vintage. The bouquet is deep, clear, and promisingly youthful, with aromas of black cherries, tar, balsam branches, a subtle base of dark earth, early hints of herbs, and a touch of chicory in the higher notes.
On the palate, the wine is profound, full-bodied, and immediately complex, with a fine core, firm and ripe tannins, lively acidity, and a very long, focused, and balanced finish that concludes with remarkable tension and elegance. While still very young, this wine is certain to evolve into a classic masterpiece.
