Valori - Inkiostro (Merlot)

Awarded Italy’s best Merlot in 2013, Inkiostro is born from a pursuit of perfection. After tasting French Merlots, Luigi Valori recognized the similarities between the sandy soils of Sant'Omero and those of Bordeaux – laying the foundation for an exceptional Italian Merlot.

A vine density of 5,500 plants per hectare and a dwarf vine variety from France produce tiny, highly concentrated grapes. An 18-month aging in barriques gives Inkiostro its powerful structure and perfect balance of all components.

The Inkiostro Merlot displays a deep, nearly impenetrable color. On the nose, it reveals intense aromas of ripe black fruits such as blackberry and cassis, accompanied by elegant notes of cocoa and vanilla. A touch of spice and a subtle oak accent complete the complex bouquet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, dense, and powerful, yet always balanced and elegant. The finely structured tannins and delicate acidity harmonize perfectly with the intense fruit flavors and the long, spicy finish.

The Valori Inkiostro Merlot is a powerful, complex red wine that perfectly combines the qualities of the French Merlot tradition with the Italian terroir of Abruzzo.
