The Schiavenza Barolo Cerretta opens with aromas of ripe red fruits such as plums and raspberries, enhanced by floral hints of violets and roses, along with spicy, mineral, and licorice nuances. On the palate, it impresses with a full-bodied, fleshy structure, elegant tannins, and vibrant acidity, finishing with a long, spicy-mineral finish. An archetypal Barolo with remarkable clarity, depth, and aging potential.
This wine is a true beauty. In this release of 5,240 bottles, the 2016 Barolo Cerretta takes that Nebbiolo purity and intensity up a significant notch, especially when you compare this cru to Schiavenza's classic Barolo and its Barolo made with fruit sourced across Serralunga d'Alba. You get a lot of expressive clarity here, with a pristine delivery that puts emphasis on wild berry fruits, blood orange, rusty earth and even a touch of bitter cacao. I love the manner in which all those aromas pile together in such a nicely layered manner. 95/100 (07.2020) - Wine Advocate
