The Milazzo - Maria Costanza Riserva Rosso represents the pinnacle of agronomic and oenological research on our Nero d’Avola clones. It creates a new red wine that - following the tradition of the estate and building on the success of the Maria Costanza Rosso - opens new avenues for interpreting Sicily’s most important indigenous grape variety.
The grapes come exclusively from a small, carefully selected vineyard in the Contrada Milici - a site with limestone-rich soil and an especially favorable microclimate. Through targeted pruning and reduced yields, the full aromatic and phenolic potential of the vines is maximized. Daily, meticulous care in the vineyard ensures the highest grape quality and expression.
In the glass, the Maria Costanza Riserva 2013 shows a deep, almost impenetrable red. The nose reveals complex aromas of green pepper spice, unroasted cocoa beans, and fresh red fruits such as blueberry and blackcurrant. A hint of delicate smokiness and incense completes the bouquet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, intense, and silky, with present yet ripe tannins. The combination of structure, freshness, and depth provides remarkable length and drinkability.
