Tasting notes
The dark ruby-colored 2013 Pinot Noir Malans Unique is perfectly deep, pure, intense and spicy on the concentrated nose that is reminiscent of ripe, thick-skinned cherries, black berries and iodine notes. Lush yet refined on the silky-textured palate, this is a supple, very intense, sweet and warm but also finessed and elegant Pinot with ripe and delicate tannins intermingled with crystalline acidity. The 2013 is tight and powerful yet vital and vibrantly fresh, revealing an almost monstrous structure paired with Burgundian finesse. The finish is pure and saline and already stimulating, but this is a wine to keep for at least five years. In fact, it closes down after a while in the bottle; so again, be patient and don't uncork your 2013s too early! This Unique is a stellar wine and one of the greatest made so far. 96/100 (06.2022)
The 2013 Pinot Noir Unique displays a very deep but fine, elegant, spicy and seamless bouquet. On the palate, this Pinot is dense, rich and refined, even transparent and silky textured, with great elegance and finesse. It is concentrated, vital and fresh as well as very long and tensioned, indicating endless youth. Amazing but firm and rather masculine, it is very fine and elegant. 95/100 (11.2018) - robertparker.com
The 2013 Pinot Noir Unique is dark and intense in its ruby color and displays a deep, complex and concentrated bouquet of ripe dark fruits along with spicy terroir, and some licorice and toasty mocha flavors (100% new pièces, medium and light toasting). There are some oxidative notes here as well. Full-bodied, rich and intense on the palate, this is a powerful, dense and very persistent Pinot with tension and a long and juicy, highly aromatic and persistent finish. This is great Swiss Pinot and you can enjoy it for at least eight to ten years. 93/100 (12.2016)
