This botrytized cuvée of 60% Riesling with equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Gelber Muskateller reflects a culling of sites destined for single-vineyard Smaragds, but also some late picking all the way into January. Like a mingling of apple jelly, honey and lime sorbet, but harboring a hint of fish oil, it manages despite its viscosity and sheer sweetness to retain a bright and tingling edge of zesty citricity. The sustained finish is soothingly honeyed if not especially complex, and retains just enough primary lemon and lime juiciness to encourage the next sip. There is little question this has the constitution for extended aging, during which greater fascination might well emerge. 88/100 (11.2015) - www.vinous.com
