Tasting notes
Picked at 100° Oechsle, partly fermented on the skins (50%, with whole berries) and aged for 12 months in small oak barrels and for another year in ball-shaped 250-liter clay casks, the golden-colored 2019 Completer opens with an intense and dense yet aromatically rather discreet nose with rum raisin, pistachio and yeasty notes. It's clearly characterized by its two years of aging on the gross and fine lees. The wine is full-bodied, intense and concentrated, quite rich but elegant and vital, with stimulating citrus bitters and a persistent mineral backbone that uplifts the extract with tension and salinity. Although in its fifth year, this is still a youthful and tight Completer with a lemon-bitter finish. It might be even more complex than the Chardonnay, even though it is less finessed. It can be described as the bridge between Obrecht's Chardonnay and their Pinot Noir, although it's clearly less finessed, but it's an age-worthy wine that will gain in complexity with bottle age. I have rarely tasted this wine with such a great pleasure. 92+/100 (01.2024) - robertparker.com
