Tasting notes
The 2022 Malanser Pinot Noir Spielmann is based on French Pinot clones (Fin and Très Fin) planted 17 years before the harvest in extremely shallow soils, where the vines grow only very slowly. Fermented with 15% whole clusters for the first time since the beginning in 2013, this dark cherry-colored Pinot offers an open, fresh and refined bouquet of coolish dark forest berries such as black berries and raspberries. Silky and elegant on the palate, this is a very intense but lush and refined, remarkably playful and saline Pinot with very fine, crunchy tannins and the purity of shallow soils, particularly for slow-growing rootstock (3306). This is an intense yet filigreed and elegant Pinot with a long, intense and rather warm finish. 13.5% stated alcohol. 95/100 (06.2024) - robertparker.com
Totally destemmed, Fromm's 2019 Malanser Pinot Noir Spielmann is from 14-year-old vines (Burgundy clones) and opens with a pure and fresh yet intense and refined nose of crushed stones and ripe, sweet red and dark fruits. Rich and round on the palate, this is a generous, intense and sweet, quite powerful but very elegant and charming Pinot with fine but structuring tannins, lingering salinity and mineral tension. Power (warmth) and intensity meets finesse. Once again, this is an impressive Pinot. 900 bottles were produced. 92/100 (02.2022) - robertparker.com
